I come from a beautiful city of Katowice in Poland. In years 2015-2019 I studied Acoustic Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics of AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow. I graduated as a Bachelor of Engineering in January of 2019 receiving diploma with distinction. My engineer diploma thesis entitled ‘Implementation of a hybrid sound synthesis technique incorporating waveshaping and subtractive methods’ has been awarded in the Contest for the Best Diploma Thesis of the Faculty. During my studies I was involved in the works of three scientific circles, what resulted in a 1st place and a distinction at the 59. Conference of the Scientific Circles of the Mining Division of the AGH UST in Acoustic Engineering section in December 2018 and the 3rd prize in the Main Board of the Polish Acoustical Society Contest for the Best Paper at the Polish Student Acousticians’ Conference in March 2019.
During my studies I have become interested in software programming, audio programming in particular (sound effects, synthesisers, virtual instruments, sound virtualization). It led me to work in Techmo sp. z o. o., where I joined the team developing the SoundToolKit – and audio spatialization and virtualization engine capable of creating immerse soundscapes in computer games. Currently a Unity plug-in of the engine is available in the Unity Store. From February 2018 to May 2018 I was a volunteer, than until September of that year an intern and finally from September 2018 until October 2019 I worked as a junior software developer. I was personally responsible for the development of initial SoundToolKit demo in Unity, integration of a sound file encoding and decoding library, variable speed replay algorithm feature (the ‘slow-motion’ effect), sound attenuation tests, new settings interface, live multiplayer audio communication through network (‘realistic team-speak’) and many more. The company has always spoken highly of me, what I can only return back, since working there was an incredible experience, both professionally and personally. I have learned a lot and hope to retain this relationship for the years to come.
My interested for programming pushed me to start studying simultaneously Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications of AGH UST (one of the most highly regarded Computer Science courses in Poland) in October 2017. It was quite a challenging time, having to cope with two courses of study and a part-time job, but it was definitely worth it. I completed two years of Computer Science and applied for a temporary leave in June 2019 because of my Master’s studies abroad. It was a great experience and I highly value all that I have learned during those four semesters.
Driven by my passion for music and programming I have seeked the best place to further deepen my knowledge in the fusion of these two areas. To my enormous happiness, I have been admitted to the Elite Master’s Programme Advanced Signal Processing & Communications Engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nurnberg. It is a prestigious course to which only a few students are accepted. The programme’s aim is to teach their students not only area-specific knowledge but also to make them incredible individuals in the fields of science or business. I have moved to Germany in autumn 2019.
In 2021, I graduated with GPA 1.0 (best possible). I was also awarded the DAAD Award for Outstanding International Students. My Master Thesis was on the application of deep learning and ordinary differential equations to Virtual Analog modeling of audio effects. The thesis research was carried out in Finland, at the Aalto University with professor Vesa Välimäki and Alec Wright. On the FAU, invaluable supervision came from professor Emanuël Habets.
Since December 2021, I have been working with Loudly GmbH, a Berlin company, on Music Maker JAM as an Audio Developer, focusing mostly on C++ but also using Android technologies like Java or Kotlin when necessary.
